World Environment day was celebrated by the Academy of Science and Environmental Education, Mandya in collaboration with Karnataka State Pollution Control board, Mandya Regional office. Plantation of saplings was carried out as a part of the World Environment day. A jatha(March of Students) was organised to create awareness about the conservation of wild life among the public. The main program  held at Gandhi Bhavan, Mandya was inaugurated by Mr.K.M.Lingaraju, Senior Environmental Officer, Mysore which was chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, Mandya District. Dr.Harish Bhat of Indian Institute of Science delivered the World Environment Day Lecture. In his address he stressed on the need of conservation of wild life for the better future of the coming generation and called for a people movement to check the illegal trade of wild species including plant and animals. Dr.B.K.Suresh, President,Academy of Science and Environmental Education, Mandya, Dr.L.Prasannakumar, Smt K.L.Savitha, Environmental Officer, Regional office,Karnataka State Pollution Control board, Mandya, Mr.K.N.Ravi, President, Press club,Mandya were on the dias. About 300-350 students from different schools and colleges were participated in the programme.
